THE ALL-AMERICAN REJECTS AT NASHVILLE MUNICIPAL AUDITORIUM IN NASHVILLE
During the middle of a heat wave in Nashville, The All-American Rejects brought their aptly named pop punk summer tour to Nashville Municipal Auditorium for a hot night of mid 2000s nostalgia and fun. Downtown was already crowded with the local NFL team hosting their first home game of the season, but that didn’t stop this group of fans who spanned across age brackets from coming out and having a good time.
The “Wet Hot All-American Summer Tour” brought The Get Up Kids, The Starting Line, New Found Glory, and The All-American Rejects into town for this tour stop in Music City, USA. There were plenty of special moments throughout the night including the lead singer, Kevin, from The Starting Line joining The Get up Kids on stage for one song, Elsa (Yes, from Frozen) making an appearance during New Found Glory’s set with a bubble machine, an extremely punk cover of Sixpence None the Richer’s song "Kiss Me”, and a t-shirt cannon that sent t-shirts flying into the the seats around the upper bowl of the auditorium. As many are aware, Chad from New Found Glory is currently battling cancer. With Nashville being his home base, he was able to include his doctors, nurses, friends, and family in this special show as he played his heart out for the crowd who had gathered. There was plenty of singing along and dancing to all of the opening bands’ sets, and of course mosh pits. Because, honestly, what’s a punk show without some moshing?
The All-American Rejects are headlining this tour and certainly did not disappoint with their set. Sounding every bit as good as they did back when I first heard of them, they took the stage with high octane energy for days. Coupled with an impressive light show and stage backdrop that consisted of a giant LED screen, the guys put on a show that wowed every one in attendance. It was quite warm in the venue, which I attributed to the aforementioned heat wave the area was experiencing, but it didn’t slow anyone down for a minute. They led the crowd through songs both old and newer, and of course didn’t leave out any of the favorites that have come to be expected from them including “Swing,Swing”, “Dirty Little Secret '', and “Move Along”. Tyson was engaged with the crowd the entire time, and they were loving every second of it. From answering back to his prompts, to singing along with him, the crowd was vocal all night and you could tell the band was feeding from their energy.
This tour continues into the fall with some changes in the opening line-up, however, should it come near you, do yourself a favor and go enjoy a good time with an awesome show!
