BEARINGS AT HOUSE OF INDEPENDENTS IN ASBURY PARK
Bearings and Broadside set out this fall on a co-headlining tour, bringing along Stateside and Unwell as openers. On November 16th, they made their stop in Asbury Park at The House of Independents. You would never guess they’d been on the road for almost a month already, as each band gave their all in unforgettable performances.
California natives, Stateside, kicked off the night, ready to get the crowd hyped up. Despite their set feeling quick, they were able to make sure everyone got a taste of who they are. Up next was Unwell, with more of a heavy vibe. They had some fans in the crowd, and it didn’t take long for them to start screaming back lyrics. It amped up the energy, and set the tone for what was coming next, Broadside AND Bearings!
When Broadside took the stage, and the cheers erupted. The crowd came to life as they sang along to songs they can relate to, whether the melodies matched the sadder undertones of the lyrics or contrasted them with upbeat riffs. Ollie Baxxter, vocalist, shared a few meanings behind songs like “Cruel”, making the message hit home for some more than others. Even though sharing personal stories that relate to the song, it helps others know that they’re not alone in the tough times they may be going through.
After much anticipation, Bearings launched into their set with recent release, “Scenery”. The Canadian pop-punk band has gained traction in the scene with their heartfelt lyrics, catchy hooks, and high energy shows. It’s hard to ignore their success. Vocalist Dougie Cousins connects with listeners, whether it’s during a jam sesh, or in the moshing crowd, he makes it feel like everyone is part of one big family. On this stop they played a mix of old favorites such as “Blue in the Dark” and “Aforementioned”, as well as new releases from their latest album, The Best Part About Being Human. They rounded out the night with fan favorite, “Sway” giving everyone one last chance to dance, sing and mosh to a up-beat anthem!
It's safe to say that this co-headlining tour was a success!
