CHELSEA CUTLER AT FRANKLIN MUSIC HALL IN PHILADELPHIA
In an oversaturated pop market, it takes a lot to stand out and keep a captive audience. There’s a certain “it” factor that you need to have as an artist. Chelsea Cutler set out on her “How To Be Human Tour” and she’s proving to everyone that she’s definitely got “it”. She played a sold out show in NYC the night before Philadelphia, and even though it wasn’t a sold out show, she drew an incredible crowd for Philly.
When Chelsea Cutler took the stage she came out with her enthusiastic, bubbly attitude. She dashed and spun back and forth across the stage throughout the performance, captivating her audience with her infectious melodies and delicate, but strong, voice. The crowd sang and danced along all night to hits such as “How to be Human”, “Are You Listening”, and “The Reason”. I feel like when you see her live, her songs pack more of a punch than they do in her recordings. It’s really great to see an artist who is able to transform their tracks for a live show. Her performance of “you were good to me” genuinely brought tears to my eyes as she sat behind they keyboard and performed the song during a more chilled out section of the set list.
Chelsea’s stage setup also added some really great visuals that enhanced her live performance. She had a large, rectangular LED arch on the front of the stage and a smaller rectangular LED arch towards the back behind a platform where her drummer and keys player were situated. The arch’s glowed colors and showed different patterned visuals during each song. My favorite was the very beginning of the show when the arch was used to displays words about herself and her latest album, How To Be Human, which was just released back in January.
I am beyond excited to see where Chelsea Cutler progresses in her career from here. She is already absolutely smashing the game, and after seeing her live, I can confidently say that she’s got the potential to really rise up among other pop stars. She stole Philadelphia’s heart for sure.
