CROWN THE EMPIRE AT VIBES EVENT CENTER IN SAN ANTONIO

This summer, celebrating the release of their debut record, Crown The Empire embarked on “The Fallout 10-Year Anniversary Tour” with special guests D.R.U.G.S, The Word Alive, and Until I wake. On this night, the tour reached its end in San Antonio at the Vibes Event Center. The city always shows out for this genre so a packed, rowdy crowd was to be expected.

Until I Wake kicked things off. The crowd was into the band's heavy feel and I was particularly impressed with the clean vocals in the choruses.

The Word Alive was up next. The crowd was definitely more familiar with them, but the band didn’t seem too impressed with the energy in the room. Nonetheless, the band pressed on after eventually hyping up the crowd as the set went on.

Then came D.R.U.G.S. I knew the crowd would turn it up for this band. San Antonio has a long history of showing up to see Craig Owens no matter who he performs with, and this night was no exception. The whole room was singing as soon as the band came out and kept the energy up throughout the show. Whether it was a call for crowd surfers, circle pits, or singalongs, Craig Owens and his band had control of the crowd during the entire set, setting the stage for Crown The Empire.

Finally, the lights dropped, the intro rolled, and Crown the Empire took the stage to a crowd of screaming fans. The band came right out to “The Fallout” and “Two’s Too Many” before they jumped into songs from the rest of their catalog.

Prior to the tour, the band noted that they were putting on their biggest production ever and they did not disappoint. It was also impressive to see the four-piece band tackle the songs with Vocalist Andy Leo and Bassist Hayden Tree handling the screams.

Like the rest of the bands, Leo noted that it was the last night of the tour, hoping to get the crowd to send it off on a high note. There was a strong sense of nostalgia throughout the show, highlighted when Leo mentioned how the band and audience are now “old emos”.

The band eventually finished with “Makeshift Chemistry” and then “Johnny’s Revenge” to cap off the night. Despite the band and the fans being “old emos”, it looks like they’ll be going strong for years to come.
