DILLON FRANCIS AT FRANKLIN MUSIC HALL IN PHILADELPHIA
Sugar, spice, and everything ice - these were the ingredients chosen to create the perfect little tour, but Dillon Francis and Yung Gravy accidentally added an extra ingredient to the concoction: a Philadelphia crowd. Thus, the most killer Thursday night was born! The duo brought their coheadliner “Sugar, Spice, And Everything Ice” tour to Franklin Music Hall this past week and honestly, the whole thing was like a fever dream. It was certainly the wildest weeknight I’ve had in a while and I’m sure many of the attendees could say the same.
The night started with Yung Gravy’s DJ, Tiiiiiiiiiip (Tip with 10 I’s), spinning some tracks to get the crowd ready. Some of the antics to start the night included throwing Zebra Cakes into the crowd as well as playing the Jellyfish Jam from Spongebob. When it was time for Yung Gravy to hit the stage, the crowd was already well pumped up.
Gravy walked out in a bathrobe and started his set off with “The Boys Are Back In Town” before having the crowd take a ride on the “Gravy Train”. His personality on stage is huge and he interacted with the crowd quite often whether it was passing along his cereal box to someone in the front row who looked hungry, or woo-ing attendees by passing out roses. The MILF enthusiast had plenty of fans in the crowd who brought signs encouraging him to kiss their MILFs that they had brought with them. There was honestly never a dull moment and I found myself laughing often during the set out of pure joy. I personally really enjoyed hearing tracks like “Whip a Tesla”, “1 Thot 2 Thot Red Thot Blue Thot”, and “oops!” live.
The transition into Dillon Francis’ set was pretty quick and smooth. Once the DJ hit the stage, I was immediately transported back to my EDM phase. His visuals were quite hypnotic, lighting up the stage and crowd. Dillon Francis mixed a ton of hits live that had myself and the crowd dancing non stop. I particularly loved hearing him mix “Welcome to the Black Parade” by My Chemical Romance and “Dancing Queen” by ABBA into parts of his set. Each transition was polished and had me saying, “Oh my god!” out loud to myself. My favorite part of his set was the affirmations, where he asked the crowd if we as a whole wanted to do some affirmations. This was promptly followed by the screen behind him displaying the affirmations with pictures and the speakers playing the audio to read them aloud. These affirmations included “I will allow myself small treats now and then”, “I will have a healthy relationship with my family” (which had a picture of Adam Driver and Lady Gaga from House of Gucci with it), “My contribution to society will be cool pictures and videos on Instagram”, “I will be on that grind”, “I will not be worried about the global economic situation”, and “I will not give a fuck or shit”.
At the end of Dillon Francis’ set he brought Yung Gravy back out and the two performed their recently released Cake and Cognac EP. The two ended the night with the highly anticipated performance of “Hot Tub”, which had everyone off their feet. The two popped off bottles of champagne into the crowd and Yung Gravy sprayed the crowd with Fruity Pebbles before sending them off. I would highly recommend making it out to a date on this tour if you can, or you’ll be experiencing some serious FOMO. This dynamic duo work so well together and it was incredible to not only see their separate sets, but their combined set as well.
