EASY LIFE AT THE FOUNDRY IN PHILADELPHIA
The United States gave a warm welcome back to the five-piece indie-pop group Easy Life for the first date of their “Life’s a Beach” U.S. tour. The Leicester natives made their first stop at The Foundry in Philadelphia for an intimate show to help celebrate their debut album life’s a beach, which was released back in May of 2021. The opener for the show dropped off, so the anticipation for the band to hit the stage was even higher as attendees waited. When the band hit the stage, they started their set off with “Pockets”. Their set started off a little timid, but it took almost no time at all for them to open up and get into the groove of the performance.
The band and the audience vibed with each song performed and the energy picked up minute by minute. Throughout their set, it was a lot of fun to watch Sam Hewitt switch between his keys, saxophone, and bass. Drummer Olly Cassidy never let his kit hold him back from interacting with the crowd, as he walked out from behind it several times to jump up on the barricade and yell with fans. They played many tracks off their album such as “daydreams”, “lifeboat”, and “living strange”. They even performed an unreleased track, “Beeswax”, that’s been teased on their TikTok account. All of their tracks really give you the itch to sway and move, so it was impossible to stand still. Their sound was warm, transporting the crowd out of the brick walls of the venue and into their own mental vacation spot. Vocalist Murray Matravers showed off his smooth voice, performing each track with ease, and clearly getting very into his performance while also hopping on the synth.
As their set started to come to a close, the band did not allow the cramped stage to get in the way of their performance. They used the monitors on the side of the stage to stand on and interact with the crowd, all while weaving in between each other with ease to move around. They ended their set with “nightmares” and left the stage to a ton of applause. The band did not perform any encores - a very to-the-point set. Easy Life is definitely a band to keep an eye on. They play a tight live set and are clearly quite the talented group of musicians. There are a ton of dates left on this U.S. tour and I’d recommend making it out to a show if you can for a lowkey night full of jams.
