FIVE ACTS YOU DON'T WANT TO MISS AT BUNBURY 2020
This is honestly one of the hardest things to write, it's no secret that the lineup for Bunbury Music Festival is filled with heavy hitters. There’s a little something for everyone from alt-rock, to electronic, and folk, it’ll be easy for the whole crew to find something they would be into. I’ll attempt to suggest a handful of varying artists you’ll want to be sure and catch this year.
1: Twenty One Pilots
I feel like this should go without saying, but I might be a bit biased. The alternative pop/rock duo from Ohio always bring so much energy to the stage, and the fact that they’re headlining a festival in their own backyard is an equation for an unforgettable show. Even if you choose to hang out towards the back, it's just as entertaining to watch their interactions with their fans who call themselves the “Clique”. After a massive worldwide tour following the release of their latest album, Trench, Twenty One Pilots will definitely be bringing the house down in early June.
2: Melanie Martinez
If you’re looking for a theatrical performance, be sure to catch Melanie Martinez. She combines singing dancing, and acting into an entertaining show. Her newest album, K-12, follows a plot of a school girl in lyrical and physical performance, all with a lesson tied in. I haven’t seen her show at a festival, but I can’t imagine she wouldn’t bring along her dancers and various set design pieces to accompany her on stage. The bubbly pop artist is always a fun one to catch.
3: The Struts
Where do I start? They’re awesome. The English glam rock band will be sure to bring the energy and keep it. Frontman, Luke Spiller, gives me shades of Freddie Mercury. Their electric performances are so charismatic the crowds can’t help but sing and dance along. Whether you are right up front or way in the back, this band is too thrilling to miss out on.
4: Betty Who
Want to feel like a bas a** woman? Betty Who. That is all.
Just kidding.. but really, Bunbury has done a great job of female representation on their lineup and I urge attendees to take full advantage. Betty Who’s dance-pop style is infectious, and it’s hard not to smile while watching her perform. Typically she travels with a couple of backup dancers and has a whole choreographed routine with her songs. I think that is a dying art and I appreciate her being a well rounded artist complete with vocals and stage presence.
5: Billy Strings
Looking for a change in pace? Don’t sleep on Billy Strings! He is a wildly talented guitarist and bluegrass artist. Since only hearing about him about two years ago, he has taken the world by storm and is popping up at almost every major festival this year. If Rolling Stone was willing to name him “One of the Top Ten New Country Artists to Know”, then you bet I’m going to take their word for it. Take it back to your folk roots while heading to catch Billy Strings during his moment at Bunbury!
