GRAYSCALE AT THE FILLMORE IN PHILADELPHIA

GRAYSCALE AT THE FILLMORE IN PHILADELPHIA

On Friday, December 22nd, Grayscale put on their second annual holiday show at The Fillmore in Philadelphia with support from Aaron West and the Roaring Twenties, Arrows In Action, and Super American. The holiday vibes were in full effect with Christmas trees on stage, as well as audience members getting into the spirit, with plenty of people dressed in Christmas sweaters and Santa suits and other festive apparel.

Grayscale are a band from Philadelphia who proudly represent their hometown, so this was a perfect way for them to end their year with a headlining show at home. Frontman Collin Walsh (who took the stage in a Philadelphia Eagles jacket, naturally) spoke on stage about how cool it was for them to headline The Fillmore as he talked about their days of playing a much smaller venue across the street, The Barbary, as a local opening act when other bands would come through and he reminisced back to days when The Fillmore wasn’t even built yet.

I’ve seen Grayscale a good handful of times this year as a support act on other tours, so seeing them headline a show for the first time in a while had me remembering how many more great songs they have than just the few I’ve been seeing lately. Some highlights for me were “YOUNG”, “Carolina Skies'', and “Live Again”. They closed the night with their most recently released single, “Not Afraid To Die”, which was towards the top of my Spotify wrapped chart this year and is one that I absolutely love. It may not be their most recent for long, though, as Collin said on stage that they just finished a new album. In fact, they even played a brand new unreleased song during their set, so my eyes will be peeled for news about their next release.

With this being the second annual holiday show (and already moving up in size since playing the TLA last year), here’s to hoping for the tradition to continue for many years to come as they continue to grow in popularity. They’ve definitely become one of my favorites, so I’m eager to see what’s to come for them in 2024.
