HUDSON TAYLOR AT WORLD CAFE LIVE IN PHILADELPHIA, PA
Hudson Taylor is out on the road for their first U.S. headlining tour and took a stop in Philadelphia on February 8th to perform at World Café Live. The very intimate setting coupled with the duo’s easygoing attitude made for the perfect night out for attendees.
For those unfamiliar with the venue, there’s a small stage area near the back, a bar on the side, and a bunch of tables. Attendees are able to enjoy dinner and drinks while soaking in the music being played. In this case, many were not able to stay seated, however, because of the infectious energy that the duo brings. People found themselves standing up at the front near the stage, dancing and singing along. Hudson Taylor is comprised of the brother duo Harry and Alfie Hudson-Taylor, and also included Tadhg Walsh-Peelo on violin and Oisin Walsh-Peelo on keys. Throughout their performance, Hudson Taylor showcased an incredible display of passion and an understanding of true musicianship.
Notable moments throughout the performance include impeccable vocal harmonies from all four musicians, as well as a great array of instruments- including violin, some type of tin whistle or Irish flute, and a bodhran. These instruments aren’t something you’d see played on your typical night out, and they add a new layer of complexity to the music the band produces. Due to the intimacy of the venue, the band was very involved with the crowd- responding to fans yelling out praise or comments, involving the crowd in singing out parts to songs, and even walking down into the middle of the venue to play “Holly”. One of my favorite parts of the set was when the band gathered around a microphone to perform “Shot Someone” acapella. It was one of the most beautiful moments I had seen at a show; to have a whole audience so quiet and respectful, listening so attentively that you could hear a pin drop.
Hudson Taylor are a truly talented musical act and I can’t recommend enough that you see them live if given the chance. I definitely can’t wait for the next time the band find themselves back in the U.S.
