JANET DEVLIN'S DECADE LONG JOURNEY TO SELF DISCOVERY IN NEW SINGLE "SAINT OF THE SINNERS"
Janet Devlin explains "Confessional" and her upcoming project
Immediately as the song started, I though back to the days of when I was in a band. I would always argue with my vocalist about adding strings to our songs, and he eventually would add them on his own. I would hear some parts of the songs now with strings, and I would have to say I was wrong not to be more open-minded at first. I would end up loving how the songs turned out with the addition of some violin and other instruments. Janet Devlin's new single “Saint of the Sinners” had me consumed right from the start. The first few seconds of just violin and strings has you wondering what’s next. Then, her voice hits with some beautiful keys backing it. What a voice! While being glued to this track and listening to it several times in a row, it brought me back to the year 1995. It was a flashback to the powerful song “Butterfly” by the talented Tori Amos - very clean music in the background with a dynamic and powerful voice hitting highs and lows from start to finish.
“Saint of the Sinners” had me feeling many different ways. At first, I felt some sadness with anger. Lyrics such as "And I am sorry for what I've done... Apologies from empty lungs... I'm lying, I'm lying again..." had me wondering that maybe she did something wrong and now was suffering the consequences. "Cause I'm the Saint of the Sinners" made me feel like she has accepted that she did wrong, and feels like she did more harm than any other person.
But, when the bridge hits and you hear her sing, "I am more than the tears I've cried... I am more than the blood that's dried...", it brings me to believe that it is possibly something she has now overcome. She has overcome the past, and has made it a part of her life to bring her to the present. She is more wise and mature, learning from the past, accepting what is, and embracing it to make the beautiful and powerful music she does. “Saint of the Sinners” is a song many need to hear, not only for the musical aspect, but for the lyrics as well.
"Saint Of The Sinners" was released on November 1, 2019 via OK Good! Records, and is her second single; the third track from her hotly-anticipated concept album Confessional, set for release in spring 2020. Take a listen down below now or click here to buy/stream on other platforms !
