Post-hardcore outfit La Dispute will be bringing the Panorama tour to the Granada Theater in Lawrence, Kansas on Friday, April 26th. They are supported by Slow Mass from Chicago, Illinois, and hardcore-punkers Gouge Away, hailing from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, with a debut record currently out on Deathwish.

La Dispute have already had a few sold-out shows, which shouldn’t be surprising, since it seems as though La Dispute had been quiet for quite some time, and fans are excited about not only getting a new album, but getting to see La Dispute on tour again. Their last album, Rooms of the House, was the last studio album by La Dispute, which was released in 2014. Panorama not only marks the band’s first album in five years, but also their debut on Epitaph Records.

Panorama shows the band in a natural evolution. Vocalist Jordan Dreyer brings in the same storytelling aspects that’s present throughout La Dispute’s discography, but is able to make them sound fresh and new in their own way. While La Dispute’s more recent catalogue can be classified as a little less heavy musically, Dreyer has been able to channel that same intensity that might be lost in the instruments into the words that he’s carefully chosen to intertwine with the accompaniment behind him. This intensity can be found almost instantly in one of the album’s leading singles Fulton Street I, in which Dreyer is trying to understand the emotions that come along with grief, and trying to understand how he would react to a specific tragedy:

“Will I ever put flowers by the street?
Never needed to live and suffer through the pain
All the tyrannies of grief, if I ever do
Will I even have the strength to do anything?”

It’s this intensity and ability to lure the listener into these stories that really sets La Dispute apart from the crowd. It’s also what makes Dreyer describe as a very intimate and personal feeling when performing these songs live. In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Dreyer had this to say about what it means to get to perform these songs live:

“If I pride myself on anything,” Dreyer says, “it’s performing and feeling that connection with people and getting to make eye contact and see people who are affected emotionally by, not even necessarily the specific thing that we’re doing, but just the general mood that punk and hardcore can create in the right atmosphere.”

La Dispute will be looking to turn the Granada Theater into more than just a venue and more than just a place to enjoy a concert. They will be turning that room into their own, pouring out their souls on the stage in hopes to maybe help concert-goers find some solace or some kind of understanding through their music.
