LAMB OF GOD AT FREEMAN COLISEUM IN SAN ANTONIO
Hot off the release of their ninth studio album, Omens, metal legends Lamb of God delivered a blazing hot set in San Antonio, Texas, with help from some notable vets and a few talented up-and-comers. Many small and mid-sized acts have made it through the city over the past year, but there hadn’t been a metal show of this caliber in a long time and the city showed out to prove why bands in this genre do so well here.
Following the performance of Fit For An Autopsy, Animals As Leaders took the stage and proved what they always do: that they’re the best musicians in the room. Fans stood in awe for the entirety of the set as the band played through track after track of their highly technical progressive metal.
When it was time for Killswitch Engage, guitarist Adam D. was on the mic spewing his comical stage banter before the band even took the stage. When they finally did come out, they got things started with “Strength of the Mind” off the 2016 release Incarnate. For the next hour, the band played songs from their entire catalog including fan favorites “In Due Time”, “The End of Heartache”, and of course, “Holy Diver”.
After Killswitch finished their set, a black curtain was draped in front of the stage as the room eagerly awaited Lamb of God. The lights eventually dropped, and a silhouette of vocalist Randy Blythe appeared from behind the curtain as he started singing the intro to “Memento Mori” before the curtain dropped and the band came in with full force. The whole room was instantly hit with a wall of sound in the best way possible. The band kept the energy up with fan-favorite “Walk With Me In Hell”, and if you’ve seen them before, you know that means the stage is filled with flames, though it never gets old.
Lamb of God continued their set with a healthy mix of songs from throughout their history, including notable tracks “Contractor”, “Ruin”, and “512”, before ultimately ending things with “Redneck” and a crowd full of circle pits.
