MAGGIE ROGERS AT TOYOTA MUSIC FACTORY IN IRVING

MAGGIE ROGERS AT TOYOTA MUSIC FACTORY IN IRVING

Maggie Rogers made her stop along with the Japanese House in Irving this weekend and as always, did not disappoint. If anything, she proved yet again how made for being a rockstar she is.

I've been lucky enough to see Maggie live from pretty much the beginning, and it never gets old seeing her reinvent her live performance every time she gets on stage. This is by far the largest venue I've seen her in as a headliner and the command in which she's able to quiet an entire packed venue full of thousands while simultaneously making us all scream in unison is something that only a select few musicians have. Doing that while also making a huge room feel like the old days of her playing small clubs is also a really special thing.

Maggie played a mixture of her last two records along with some of the deep cuts from the first EP, as well as from the debut, incorporating newer versions of older hits such as a slowed down and funkier version of “Alaska”. A fan in the crowd hollered "Falling Water!" in between songs so Rogers switched it up and made a tour debut performing that beloved hit. There were so many key moments during this show for me. One that stood out had to be during "Love You For A Long Time," there was an active kiss cam going around the crowd that played on the big screen behind the stage, with Maggie acknowledging while she sang. This truly had us all in the feels. And I say that, until she really surprised us all and brought out none other than Fort Worth/Texas/Music legend, Leon Bridges, to sing “River” with as the final encore song. Tears were flowing.

The Japanese House was support for this stop on the tour and was a perfect pairing. Amber Bain is another artist that has gotten better and better as they progress within their career. Their set was a great warmup for Maggie.

We danced. We cried. We wished it was at least an hour longer (or five!) If you've never seen Maggie live, you must (she's in arenas this fall!).
