MATT AND KIM AT RAMS HEAD LIVE! IN BALTIMORE
Indie-pop duo Matt and Kim put on a party of a show on Saturday night in Baltimore with support from Babybaby_explores. I’m a firm believer that it's impossible to experience a Matt and Kim show without a smile on your face, because if the fast paced pop music isn’t enough, the antics and stage banter should surely do the trick. They always make it a joyful atmosphere with confetti, balloons, jokes, and more. At one point, Kim crowd surfed from the stage all the way to the bar in the back of the venue to get a beer, and then crowd surfed her way back up. They also both went into the crowd to sing together, and they shared plenty of funny stories in between songs. Kim even played her drums with two giant dildos at one point, which would be pretty shocking if I wasn’t already familiar with their antics. Another staple of their shows made its appearance as well: naked blow up dolls with Matt and Kims faces on them. I have a Kim doll at home from a previous show years ago, so I totally should’ve grabbed the Matt doll to have the complete set.
Despite it being a rainy night, the crowd was full of energy and giving an equal amount out as what Matt and Kim were giving on stage. Multiple times throughout the show, Matt and Kim made comments on how wild and crazy the crowd was, with Kim even giving out medals to some extra-passionate fans who were going the hardest in the pit or who caught her eye by crowd surfing. They were basically participation trophies for the crowd, which is such a fun idea I think more artists should implement.
Multiple times throughout the show, Matt and Kim expressed their love for Baltimore, saying that they spend a good bit of time around this area due to having family nearby. They also mentioned that their baby nephew was in attendance and joked that if anyone was wondering who brought their baby to such a show, that was why.
Overall, it was exactly what I expected out of a Matt and Kim show, which is to say just a straight up fun and energetic concert that left me happier and more awake than I was when I walked in. They’ll be on tour through mid-October, so check out https://www.mattandkim.com/tour for dates and tickets.
