MITSKI AT THE LAWN AT WHITE OAK MUSIC HALL IN HOUSTON

Freezing rain and all, Mitski conquered the insanely unpredictable Texas weather and gave a legendary show in support of her sixth studio album, Laurel Hell. After a brief hiatus, Mitski's return to music and performing live has been right on track and in true Mitski fashion. This show in Houston was no exception.

She first began the show with a quick apology regarding her appearance, mentioning that although she had planned an outfit for the show, the extremely cold and wet weather in Houston called for warmer clothing (she opted for a CHAI hoodie - supporting act for the tour). Regardless of wardrobe, the show was incredible and I can say a large majority of us were probably sweating in our multi layers from dancing nonstop.

Mitski's ability to convey all of the feelings and emotions within her music through the over-exaggerated dance and facial expressions is something that needs to be appreciated more, and the stage was perfectly lit and set for her to showcase all of that to the audience. Her voice was amazing as usual, and somehow she made a massive lawn with thousands of people feel like a tiny club show. There were moments when even with the rain and wind going full on, it almost accompanied parts of the songs and it felt like it fit perfectly.

She played a quite extensive set in Houston - twenty plus songs, which were a mixture of songs from albums Laurel Hell, Be the Cowboy, and bury me at makeout creek. It's really quite remarkable the reach Mitski has with her music, although not even remotely surprising. Mitski's been regarded as influential and a legend for some time now, but with her hiatus and the resurgence of her music and its popularity increasing on social media platforms like Tik Tok, it was cool to see a lot of most likely new faces in regards to her ever growing fanbase.

I'm beyond delighted that Mitski is back and touring, and I can definitely say she is one of only a select few artists that I would stand out in the freezing rain for and would without a doubt do it again. So yeah, Mitski rules. And of course, stream Laurel Hell.
