MOON TOOTH AT SAINT VITUS BAR IN BROOKLYN
The date was July 10, 2019. Light The Torch returned to Saint Vitus Bar in Brooklyn, New York. That show was amazing in so many ways, one of which was discovering this heavy and powerful sound; an energy driven band with a message expressed through their music. That band was the opener, Moon Tooth. One thing I always look forward to when attending a concert is the opening act(s). Moon Tooth literally had my eyes staring at the stage and my ears collecting this sound that immediately turned me into a fan.
Now, Moon Tooth have made their way back to Saint Vitus Bar, this time headlining. To start this night, the show opened with “Trust”. This song, without a doubt, got that crowd rocking. Their video for “Trust” is a pretty good visual to explain their live show experience - being in a "Breaking Room" or "Rage Room" where you have music blasting and you destroy objects in the room with your choice of several weapons. Now, I don't mean that we were all breaking things and causing a riot. What I mean is the feeling of the energy trapped inside you, and that voice deep inside wanting to get out and just let loose, forgetting any stress or worries and turning all your energy into having a great time. This song makes you feel alive and wanting more. The song has some major ear catching riffs, and an amazing bridge melody that just sucks you into it. All of these songs bring the powerful sound this band has. Other tunes that followed were “Omega Days” and “Igneous”. The set flowed with heartfelt rage in the vocals, mixed with fast and heavy sounds from the instruments. The set continued into the slow sounding hard rock grove that “Through Ash” brings to the table.
Another thing I love about this band is that lead vocalist, John Carbone, always addresses the crowd. Not only does he thank fans for coming, but he explains why the band are where they are, how grateful they are, what the music they produce means to them, and how important it is for everyone in the music and metal communities to come together for a purpose. We all love what we love. Moon Tooth is metal music at its finest - putting on a show for us to all have a blast, but still delivering a powerful message at the same time.
As the show continued, the band started rocking “Awe At All Angles”, personally one of my favorite songs. Talk about a song to have your head all over the place! There is so much talent from every band member, and everything each individual brings to the table. John left the stage to mix into the crowd with some dance moves, and to put out even more of that energy. The stage presence from these guys is what we all love as music lovers - seeing the passion that lies deep within the band members and how they deliver it to the crowd and fans. The show started its close with guest singers jumping on stage and John grabbing a kick drum and bouncing all over stage with, it giving it some hard smacks with a drum stick. “Crux” was the song to close the night, and it could not have been a more perfect choice. This is a song that starts off with some amazing guitar work by guitarist Nick Lee, who is shortly joined by the rest of the boys, John, Vin (bass guitar) and Ray (drums). It has a slow pace at the start with pre-choruses that build just enough energy to some hard hitting choruses, followed by one hell of a bridge and an ending that gives the fans what they want - some hard hitting rock and heavy metal!
I was able to catch both John and Nick at the merch table to have a friendly chat with them and express to them what their music does for me. The look on their faces said it all with how thankful they were, and how much gratitude they have for the individuals known as "their fans". Make sure to check out a show sometime and watch Moon Tooth shred!
