SET IT OFF AT ASBURY LANES IN ASBURY PARK
Unfortunately, our Sum41/Simple Plan Stone Pony Summer Stage show was postponed, but fortunately Asbury Lanes got a jump on booking Set it Off for the same night. Shit like this doesn't happen often, but when you have a town like Asbury Park with close to a dozen venues and spots for a band to play, it becomes a free for all for pop up and last-minute shows. This was the case with Set it Off, who was scheduled to open for Sum41 and Simple Plan. A few hundred people showed up to see one of their favorite bands play. Set it Off brought along Cherie Amour to open and they started off the show with their Talk it Off podcast live in person for the first time.
The Talk it Off podcast consists of Cody, Maxx, and Zach from Set it Off who just talk about their lives on the road as a band. Since it was live in person, they had a Q&A where fans asked some cool questions after.
Cherie Amour kicked off the music with a banger. A really cool vibe and stage performance got the crowd excited and screaming along. After photographing bands for 17 years, I love when I get to see bands I've never seen or even heard of, so it was a very refreshing set for me as well.
When Set it Off took the stage everyone went ape shit. Set it Off, a headlining band on their own, gave their fans what they came for. Asbury Lanes was the perfect setting for this kind of show - a great stage with an amazing lighting system in a bowling alley is something you don't see often. Set it Off not only have great music to throw at you, but they seem like really cool down to earth guys who care about their fans. In today's world of the music industry I'm noticing that the bands that interact with their fans on a regular and more personal level seem to be the ones striving out there.
I'm glad this show happened and I was part of it. Originally Asbury Lanes had a show scheduled for May 7th, but that show got cancelled which opened up the date for this show to be booked. I now have two more bands to follow and listen to along my journey. Shout out to Set it Off as they continue their tour. Check out their website for all upcoming dates and other cool things they have to offer.
