SLIGHTLY STOOPID AT STONE PONY SUMMER STAGE IN ASBURY PARK
Asbury Park is a special shore town in New Jersey that gives you more than just the normal beach, boardwalk, and ocean. It is also known for being a huge music town going back decades and continuing to this very moment. This past Saturday, the San Diego natives, Slightly Stoopid, hit the Stone Pony Summer Stage. With their huge fan base, one would expect this show was SOLD OUT!
It never fails to amaze just how much humans can truly love a solo artist and/or a full band. I was absolutely blown away with seeing (and being a part of) this massive amount of people within the Summer Stage walls. Not only that, but to see the huge gatherings on the boardwalk and both parking areas on each side of the Summer Stage walls: it blew me away to see just how much this band is loved.
Slightly Stoopid had several acts help make this Saturday night overload your mind with music. Pepper, Common Kings, Fortunate Youth, and The Elovaters all took their part in giving this sold out crowd their money’s worth.
“Roots Rip”, “Up on a Plane”, “Fire Below”, and “2AM” were all part of the set list for Slightly Stoopid this evening. A nice cover of Dr. Dre’s “Still D.R.E.” definitely helped this crowd gain even more energy as they kept rocking up all the way to the end of this show. If you have been to a Slightly Stoopid show, you know they pull off some of the best covers of absolute classics! When I photographed these guys a few years back, they ripped several Nirvana covers that were just perfect!
Miles Doughty and Kyle McDonald (both on the lead vocals, guitar, and bass) did their jobs of entertaining and delivering. Switching guitar to bass mid songs, getting the crowd amped up, and remembering to give thanks to all the fans in attendance - these guys, along with their bandmates, are the definition of live music. Thrills, chills, and leaving the fans wanting more, I can promise you that you will never be let down attending one of these shows! Slightly Stoopid’s “Summer Traditions 2022 Tour” has just hit the midway point. There are plenty of shows to still catch the boys in action. Check to see if they will be visiting a city near you for the remainder of August. You don’t want to miss it!
