TASH SULTANA AT THE MOODY THEATRE IN AUSTIN
This month the state of Texas was truly blessed by the presence of Australian great, Tash Sultana. I was lucky enough to get a look at her stop in Austin at the Moody Theatre. I went in as an avid Tash Sultana fan, and left as a massive one with my jaw practically on the ground. Her live performances are on an entirely different level from most, and this Austin show was no exception.
She played a mix of tunes from her debut album “Flow State”, as well as many of her hits from her EP, “Notion”, such as “Gemini” and “Jungle”. Amongst all of the incredible written material she performed live, there were also these incredibly beautiful, intricate, and intimate solos that were sort of like interludes and preludes throughout the set. Some were all instrumental, and some were her singing that made it feel like listening to an entire choir. The crowd was in awe during these parts; you could hear a pin drop during the breaks in between. Then, when she'd play her songs, it was seldom to see or hear a person not knowing all of the words.
One thing I can definitely say that you get when you see Tash live is variety. She's got music that can make you break out in a dance, or out in tears. One minute you're watching her create an entire song from scratch live, and the next she's playing a trumpet solo on the edge of the stage. She's an incredible performer, and it's apparent that she loves her music as much as we do.
If you haven't seen Tash live yet, you HAVE to. Pretty soon she'll be selling out venues even more massive than the ones she already is. Don't sleep on her.
