THE BOBBY LEES AT THE BASEMENT IN NASHVILLE
Anytime there is a show at The Basement in Nashville, you know you are in for a good time. The Bobby Lees, who are in the middle of a US tour supporting their new album that was released this past fall, have been selling out venues all over the country, and made their stop in Nashville at this legendary venue on Friday, April 14th.
Long know as an indie rock venue, The Basement is an intimate venue situated below a beloved local record shop with an entrance that can only be accessed from the alley behind the shop. It is lovingly referred to as The OG Basement by locals and is famous for the small, but energetic rock shows that have been known to take place here within the brick and mortar walls and poster covered ceilings. The Bobby Lees were no exception and fit the vibe of this legendary live music spot.
The night began with an opening set from Nashville locals, the Shitdels, who brought their brand of rock to a rowdy crowd that was singing along with many of the songs. By the time the Bobby Lees took the stage to a packed house, you could feel the energy permeating the room. They fed off of the energy and played a variety of songs from their catalog spanning albums new and old. Some highlights included “Hollywood Junkyard”, “Little Table”, “Bellevue”, and “Dig Your Hips”. The crowd kept pace singing along, moshing and crowd surfing as the evening went on. In a venue that is positioned in a basement with low ceilings, crowd surfing is impressive. Even when singer and guitarist Sam Quartin slowed it down with a more mellow song, the energy of both the band and the crowd never waned. It was obvious that the crowd were followers of The Bobby Lees and were loving the show that night. I had never seen The Bobby Lees live before, but make no mistake, the next time they make it through Nashville, I will make a point to check it out again.
