WE WERE PROMISED JETPACKS AT HI-FI IN INDIANAPOLIS
Nearing the end of a long tour across the majority of the U.S., Scottish indie rock group, We Were Promised Jetpacks, has made their way to one of their last stops of the tour. On February 25th, the bands entered Indianapolis to play the small concert venue, Hi-Fi.
With the band having no openers on the tour besides Phillies’ very own Slaughter Beach, Dog, I can gladly say I was beyond excited to be covering the show. I’m no stranger to the band and I would go as far to say they are one of my favourite musical acts in the past few years. Unlike earlier music projects, I feel like Jake and the rest of the band get to fully express themselves on the studio recordings and in live sessions. Upon entering the stage, the band opened with “Building the Arc” and went on to play songs from their newest release Safe And Also No Fear. With every second the band played, I felt constantly moved and I could feel the tears in my eyes building once they began to play “Politics Of Grooming”.
After an emotional 40 minute set, We Were Promised Jetpacks strolled onto the stage with a thunderous crowd howling and clapping for their appearance. Before they could even play, they start talking with the crowd and wishing a girl a Happy Birthday. Before I could even hear the band play, I was just taken aback and impressed with how witty and charming they were, but I get taken back in once they begin to play. My first thought when hearing them was their sound. It’s such a nostalgic feeling, but in a familiar way. It’s a sound in rock I haven't heard in awhile and it felt great to have that feeling back.
