YELLOWCARD AT THE STONE PONY IN ASBURY PARK
Fans lined up around the building to see Yellowcard at The Stone Pony in Asbury Park, NJ. Ironically, this is the 20th Anniversary tour of their album Ocean Avenue, and The Stone Pony’s address is 913 Ocean Avenue. They brought along a stacked set of openers with them including This Wild Life, Story Of The Year, and Mayday Parade. The crowd was packed as fans highly anticipated the headliner, Yellowcard, to come out. It was almost impossible to move around outside because there were so many fans there.
This Wild Life took the stage first, preparing the fans for the night. They came out in bright green matching outfits that they also sell at their merch stand, which was great marketing. They played most songs with two guitars, although they also brought out a ukelele and played the drums for one. They played a lot of old fan favorites and a couple of their new songs off their recently released album, Never Fade. They also played a cover of Blink 182’s “I Miss You”, which the crowd enjoyed singing along to.
Story Of The Year came on next and I was really excited for their set. They recently released their sixth album called Tear Me To Pieces, which made fans really excited for new music. They played a lot of classics, including my favorite, “Until The Day I Die”. The crowd went crazy when that song played, and the lead singer moved all over the stage. I’ve listened to them for years and enjoy their old and new songs. It was refreshing to see the crowd singing along to both.
Mayday Parade hit the stage next, and the fans went crazy. They have been around for almost two decades and have a lot of famous old songs. They also recently released some new songs, “Got Me All Wrong” and “More Like A Crash”. I was so happy that they played “More Like A Crash” because it has been my favorite song recently to sing. It made me excited for them to release even more new songs in the future.
Yellowcard hit the stage, and it was apparent how electrified the fans were. The lead singer, Ryan, told the crowd they 100% sold out The Stone Pony Summer Stage, which is incredible. He explained that they used to play on the smaller stage inside, and now he doesn’t know what to say. Ryan explained that they had been looking forward to the night for a long time. The last time they toured was six years ago, and the band recalled an incredible show at Starland Ballroom in Sayreville, NJ.
This was their first time playing on the iconic Stone Pony Summer Stage, and they were so excited. Ryan introduced the band members and expressed their gratitude to everyone in attendance. He said he wanted the crowd to have the most fun they have ever had in their entire lives. It was so special to witness them selling out the Stone Pony Summer Stage and bring in such a large crowd. Make sure to get tickets to a date on the rest of their tour before they sell out!
