GRAYSCALE AT THE PAPER TIGER IN SAN ANTONIO

GRAYSCALE AT THE PAPER TIGER IN SAN ANTONIO

After quite some time, Philadelphia-based quintet, Grayscale, finally made their way back to San Antonio on the “Summer Dream Tour” with Guardin, Bearings, and The Ivy.

I made my way into the venue after a delay at the door just in time to catch the second act, Bearings. Seeing the band soundcheck before their set, I couldn’t have guessed the type of show we were about to witness, but once they got going, I was very pleasantly surprised. The pop punk act blazed through song after song, making sure to get the crowd, who maybe weren’t quite ready for such a high-energy performance, amped up as the set went along.

Up next was Guardin, and I can certainly say I was not expecting his performance. The beat dropped when he hit the stage and he promptly began his hip-hop/rap style performance. Despite not enjoying the performance personally, the audience was hyped. They mimicked Guardin’s stage presence, jumping around and dancing throughout the entire set. It was the most engagement from the crowd throughout the entire evening for sure. Fans even crowded the merch table as soon as he left the stage, hoping for a chance to meet him.

After an interesting lineup of openers, Grayscale took the stage in front of a crowd of screaming fans. The beautiful lighting design began and the band instantly had all eyes glued to the stage. The crowd sang and danced from start to finish as the band played songs from their 3 latest releases, Adornment, Nella Vita and Umbra

Despite being a smaller venue, Grayscale had the room at Paper Tiger feeling way bigger, and with the way the audience sang along with every word of the epic performance, those standing outside would have guessed this was an arena show.

Grayscale’s “Summer Dream Tour” wraps up in just a few weeks. The band is performing at the top of their game, and the rest of the lineup is an interesting watch too. Be sure to catch a gig on this tour while you still can.
