Samia kicked off the night with a set filled with girl power. This New York City native one of the hearts of Illinois with her soothing voice, and unique aesthetic. The singer-songwriter played her song “Lasting Friend,” which she introduced by stating the song is about the boys who would inappropriately touch her in 6th grade, which unfortunately, is a story that most women can relate to in some way or another. She closed off her set with a cover of the ever so famous “Edge of Seventeen” by Stevie Nicks. This song was full of energy and done flawlessly, all while getting the crowd moving.
Hippo Campus ended the night with a freeing set. Kicking off their set was “Bambi,” the song that made them so well known. They continued on with songs such as “Golden,” “Way It Goes,” and “Doubt.” These Minnesota boys never fail to fill everyone in the crowd with genuine smiles and the need to dance until they can’t anymore - and that is exactly what they did that night. During “South,” there wasn’t a person in the room that wasn’t singing along. In fact, there was a point in the song where they stopped singing and playing, to leave the crowd to sing as loudly as possible. The crowd carried through beautifully. They closed with an energetic and fun “Buttercup.”
