ICE NINE KILLS AT STARLAND BALLROOM IN SAYREVILLE, NJ
Starland Ballroom in Sayreville, NJ became a horror fan’s playground recently as the Episode III Tour rolled through. Supporting headliners Falling In Reverse were the Massachusetts metalcore band Ice Nine Kills. The band recently released their last album “The Silver Scream” back in October and have been busy touring since. As an avid horror fan, I really loved the album and had to take the chance to check out how the band makes it come to life on stage.
There aren’t enough words to explain how much I truly loved seeing Ice Nine Kills perform live. The band has a very theatrical stage presence and really makes sure they are getting into character throughout the show. Dressing as characters from the horror movies represented through their music on the album, you can expect to see some cool references: a yellow raincoat, the famous Freddy knife glove, a Texas Chainsaw butcher outfit, Amanda Young’s pig mask, an entire Eric Draven get up, and of course, a yellow raincoat and red balloon donning the IX logo. In addition to these costumes, the band also had a woman dressed as Jason’s mother come out during “Thank God It’s Friday”, and a Michael Myers mask for “Stabbing in the Dark”. The band are all quite active on stage, making it hard to look away for even a second (not that you’re even going to want to once they start).
The band played mainly tracks off of “The Silver Scream” but also included “Communion of the Cursed”. Music performance wise, the band put on a very tight performance, sounding just as good, if not better than the album.
The Episode III Tour still has quite a few dates left to catch. I would highly recommend making it out to see Ice Nine Kills perform, especially if you’re a fan of the horror universe and heavy music!
