LOVELYTHEBAND AT IRVING PLAZA IN NEW YORK, NY
Lovelytheband brought it to Irving Plaza! Between the nostalgia, admiration, and raw talent, this night was one to remember. First Jagwar Twin took the stage, hyping up the crowd with his single “Loser”. Next up, Swedish-American indie pop duo Flora Cash captivated the crowd with their mellow tunes including hit song, “You’re Somebody Else”. And finally, lovelytheband appeared in front of us.
They opened the show with “finding it hard to smile” and transitioned effortlessly to “make you feel pretty” and “emotion”. Then, the emotions really started rolling. Lead-singer Mitchy recalled the one time he waited outside Irving Plaza, in line for hours on end to see Fall Out Boy and Midtown. He grew up just outside the city in New Jersey and said “I’ve been to like 5000 shows here [Irving Plaza] but this is the first time I’m playing here, and you guys fucking sold it out.” The anecdotes kept rolling as they mentioned their nomination for Billboard Best Rock Band in the same category as Queen! Mitchy choked up a little bit as he told us about his tradition every New Year’s Eve to post “This year, the band will make it,” on Facebook for his mom to see. “Well guess what mom, this year, the band made it,” he uttered out before taking a moment alone, back to the crowd. Jordan ran to hug him as “broken” rang through the speakers.
“Everything I could never say... to you” started the well anticipated encore when a cowboy hat was chucked on stage with a request to play Old Town Road. We enjoyed a little snippet seconds before “these are my friends” closed the show. Sam and Jordan rocked out while Mitchy hopped up on the barricade greeting all the lucky front row fans by jumping in and crowd surfing. But then he disappeared! Turns out the girls weren’t ready to hold him up. Red and white confetti fell from the sky ending the night on a perfect note. There’s so much in store for lovelytheband.
