IZIA AND LEE ANN CURREN AT LA BELLE ELECTRIQUE IN GRENOBLE
Izia Higelin is currently touring to support her 4th album, Citadelle. Released this autumn, the new studio creation highlights a change in the career of the songwriter. The 29 year old singer is honest and true to her character in these songs, offering more mature materials to her fans. Embarking on a long journey of more than 30 dates, she was very expected in Grenoble.
Opening for her for a couple of concerts, Ann Lee Curren did an amazing job. The former surfer and former member of Betty the Shark proves to also be a fantastic singer and songwriter as a solo artist. Perfectly fitting the electro-pop that is now infusing Izia’s music, the new songs from Lee Ann Curren’s record sets up a dreamy atmosphere in the venue, the perfect introduction.
It’s 9pm when Izia is finally taking up the stage, loudly cheered on by her fans. Her rock songs slowly became mixed with an electro-pop rhythm that is particularly relevant nowadays. The energy, the lights, and the production all makes the show full. The rhythm is intense, and Izia doesn’t stop for a minute, song after song.
The studio tracks of Citadelles are sometimes a bit too much “like everything else, nowadays” in their instrumental composition. They seem to have lost the rock touch of the previous albums. The warm, lively music took some cold, plain accents. The lyrics are much more personal, however. They are there to bring the emotional side of the music and they become very much alive on stage. Izia really is embodying her songs, giving them life with a power that nobody can ignore.
