JESSIE MURPH AT THEATRE OF LIVING ARTS IN PHILADELPHIA
Singer Jessie Murph brought her sold out “Drowning” tour to Philly’s Theatre of Living Arts this past weekend. Originally, the show was set to be held at The Foundry, but the venue was upgraded, and this certainly didn’t stop her fans from selling out the show anyways. You may know the singer from her viral Tik Tok videos where she boasts millions of likes and 8.8 million followers. Even her instagram account has grown to 687,000 followers and her spotify listeners total over 5 million. At only 18 years old, the singer is seeing a ton of success already, and after getting to see her at the Philadelphia show, it’s very apparent why.
There was a high level of anticipation buzzing throughout the crowd at the TLA while waiting for Jessie Murph to hit the stage. Her setup included transparent rectangular columns filled with chicken wire and LED fairy lights. As the venue was preparing for her entrance, fans in the front row on the barricade held a variety of signs which said things like “Jessie’s music is there to help me”, “I love you more than caffeine!”, and “Snoots”. Jessie came skipping out on stage in her snoots (sneaker boots) and opened her set off strongly with “I Would’ve”. The crowd was absolutely feral for her and couldn’t get enough. She spent a lot of time throughout the set interacting with fans on the barricade; holding hands, and taking their phones to take selfies. She performed quite a few tracks off her 2023 album drowning that included “Drunk in the Bathtub”, “They Leave”, and “If I Died Last Night”. She made sure fans knew that her shows would be a safe space. At one point she asked for the crowd to light up the room with their phones before performing “Pray”. She even included a Carrie Underwood cover of “Before He Cheats”. The crowd had a wide range of ages, but one thing was the same across the board - how much fun everyone was having dancing and shouting along with Jessie.
Jessie Murph had a beautiful live voice and an electric stage presence. I have no doubt in my mind that she’s only going to keep getting better from here as she hones her skills as an artist. Jessie Murph is certainly not someone you want to sleep on.
