MEET ME @ THE ALTAR AT THE FOUNDRY IN PHILADELPHIA

MEET ME @ THE ALTAR AT THE FOUNDRY IN PHILADELPHIA

Pop punk trio Meet Me @ the Altar is scheduled to release their debut album Past // Present // Future on March 10th via Fueled by Ramen. The group set out on their first headlining tour in support of the album, and took a stop at Philadelphia’s intimate venue, The Foundry. If you missed this show, I’m urging you to find another date to attend, because after seeing them perform a headlining show, I can only begin to imagine the growth this band is going to make. You won’t be seeing them in a venue this small again.

Starting the night off was Daisy Grenade. Prior to the show I listened to them for the first time, and just from the recordings I knew I could anticipate a fun set. They certainly did not let me down there! Keaton Whittaker and Dani Nigro are bursting with energy and really put their all into the set. At one point, they had Young Culture’s vocalist, Alex Magnan onstage to perform with them, and several crowd surfers came over the barricade. The girls excitedly exclaimed that they were the first crowd surfers the band had gotten. If you’re heading out to one of the shows on this tour, I highly recommend getting there early enough to check out Daisy Grenade.

Taking the stage after was Young Culture. It was immediately apparent that many of the people attending the show were there for Young Culture just as much as they were there for Meet Me @ the Altar. Their fan base seems incredibly dedicated, and it was great to see how involved the band got with them.

My first encounter with seeing Meet Me @ the Altar live was back in 2021 when they opened for Coheed and Cambria and The Used. Their set was so good that I knew I had to catch them again when I could. I was thrilled to see they were finally doing a headlining tour. When it was time for MMATA to hit the stage, the crowd opened up and a dance circle started to the pre-set music. Ada, Téa, and Edith hit the stage and started with one of their newer singles, “Say It (To My Face)”. There was nothing on stage besides the three women, allowing them all the room they needed to jump around. These women certainly mean business. They put on a really phenomenal show and included tracks on their setlist such as “Hit Like a Girl”, “Feel A Thing”, and “May the Odds Be in Your Favor”. In the middle of their set they did a short set of covers that included Alanis Morissette’s “You Oughta Know”, Avril Lavigne’s “Complicated”, and Christina Vidal’s “Take Me Away” (from Freaky Friday). Edith’s vocals fit these songs perfectly and it was a really entertaining part of the set. As the crowd moshed, danced, and sang along, I was reminded of how lighthearted and carefree this genre can be. It was a refreshing feeling. They performed quite a few new tracks that are going to be on their upcoming album as well. Like I said before, if you have the chance to catch a show on this tour, it’s got a really solid lineup and Mee Me @ the Altar are absolutely worth checking out!
