K. FLAY AT THE FILLMORE IN CHARLOTTE
It was a fairly quiet Monday night at The Fillmore in Charlotte,. People mulled about the venue, which was set to host artist K.Flay on her “Solutions Tour”. First on the bill was Your Smith. She took the stage and grooved with the crowd, and got people engaged with her, singing selections from her new EP, ‘Wild Wild Woman’. Next up was the band, Houses, who did a great job of jamming and keeping the vibe going.
It was still very low-key before K.Flay’s set, but as the crew took the coverings off of the drum kit and guitar amps, we got our first look at the exciting stage design. It was comprised of multi-level light up blocks surrounded by large screens going up almost to the lighting rig.
The lights dimmed and the steps glowed with a low purple light as K.Flay and team took to the stage in all white garb. The set started slowly and gradually built into the powerful performance we have come to expect from the artist. The stage design added to the show with the lights on the steps and projected visuals, changing with every song. About halfway through the set, she went acoustic with the performance for songs such as, “Nervous”, “Can’t Sleep”, and a cover of “Fuck and Run”. It was a nice slow moment that was just long enough before ramping back up and ending the set with songs like, “So Fast, So Maybe”, and “Sister”.
There was definitely a fair amount of dancing and singing happening, it was a fun and dynamic show that I would recommend checking out.
