HAIL THE SUN AT DEEP ELLUM ARTS CO. IN DALLAS
Hail the Sun can surely put together an amazing line up for a tour. On this tour you had VIS based out of California opening the show with such a high energy. They had the blood flowing early and the crowd moving. When I tell you they utilized every inch of that stage, they really did. They really seemed at home here in Deep Ellum.
Royal Coda came on after them with a mix of sounds from melodic to heavy, and their vocalist had quite the range, mixing in some bravados and falsettos. It was an amazing sound and the whole crowd was loving it.
The strawberry girls are an instrumental band but that did not stop them from getting the crowd going even crazier with their catchy melodies and riffs, topped off with some groovy licks. I thoroughly enjoyed the performance.
Finally, you had the main act, Hail the Sun. The are one of my favorite bands since I discovered them a few years ago at RBC, touring for their new album ‘Mental Knife’. They played everything from the ‘Elephantis’ EP up to the ‘Mental Knife’ album, and I have to say this was hand down was one of the best performances I have seen from them. Shane had his usual crazy energy, vibing along with Aric across the stage getting groovy. John was being rambunctious as per usual, and Donovan had the crowd going with his vocals and drumming at the same time, never missing a beat. This venue was at capacity and many were crowd surfing. It was such a great show and not one to miss.
