KESHI AT RADIO CITY MUSIC HALL IN NEW YORK CITY
Monday night I filed into Radio City Music Hall with everyone else to catch Keshi open for LANY. The venue was packed and everyone was very ready for Keshi to come out on stage when the lights went dark.
Keshi is described as an enigmatic singer-songwriter and the music very much gives that vibe, but he completely had control of the crowd and even got people to dance and participate during new songs that are not out yet. He opened his set with the current single, “beside you” from his yet to be announced full length record. The song is smooth and his voice flows so well over the beats behind him. It translated incredibly live. People were not only dancing and jamming immediately, but near the front were people throwing their hands up desperate to interact with him and he was more than willing to oblige through the whole set: high fiving people, holding hands and pointing.
The next song was one of the few new songs in the set from an upcoming record. Keshi talked about how he had outgrown his older stuff and wanted to play some new stuff. The new song was titled “SOMEBODY” which is clearly dedicated to a hookup or partner with lyrics like, “baby give me some body and come and put it on me.” In between songs he repeatedly thanked the crowd and the city of New York for showing up early to see him. From the screams replying to that, a lot of the crowd was very jazzed up to see him as well.
Keshi might not have been around a long time, but he definitely had the stage presence and worked the crowd the right way, even those that weren’t there for him to have fun, dance, and just enjoy the tunes.
Another new song that was played that sounded incredible was called “angel”. He played the acoustic guitar and was just so happy to be there. He kept repeating “Thank you New York, you’ve been so kind to me.” From the songs played, this album is going to be one to watch for.
He ended his set with a song that everyone knew, “2 Soon” but not before asking, “Are there any Keshi fans in the audience?” to which the crowd made a huge noise. I would highly recommend you go check out Keshi if you’re headed out to this tour - very much worth it.
