LOVELESS AT IRVING PLAZA IN NEW YORK CITY
LA based rock duo, Loveless, are making their way around the globe with their expansive 2023 world tour and we managed to catch them in New York City at the legendary Irving Plaza for a sold out show with supporting artist Taylor Acorn. Before even entering the venue, the collective excitement was palpable. The line wrapping around the block filled with eager fans really set the stage for the incredible show that was to come.
Opening up the night was Taylor Acorn; a pop-punk artist pumping the venue with nothing short of an exciting performance to match the energy of her infectiously catchy music. Starting as a country musician, Taylor Acorn gained popularity as a pop-punk artist beginning with her acoustic cover of “Jamie All Over” by Mayday Parade. Taylor Acorn’s blend of relatable lyrics, really strong word choice, and incredibly catchy melodies leaves for a super memorable experience. Just listen to any chorus: “Since I'm already the bad guy in your head, I'll hit you with my car and I'll leave you for dead / And I'll always like the view from the high road but baby for you, I'll be your psycho.” It was great to see that this energy translated well and effectively to a live format. Taylor Acorn was fun, engaging, and utterly stunning. Her performance left a really sweet taste and a shockingly massive beginning to a show that would only grow larger.
Up next already was the headlining act. It was impressive to see how the show was sold out with just these two acts alone. My anticipation to see Loveless was already high, but I wasn’t prepared for how lively their set was about to be. Loveless’ ascent to popularity began with singer Julian Comeau posting pop-punk reimaginings of modern pop songs on TikTok before eventually transitioning into posting more original material alongside guitarist Dylan Tirapelli-Jamail. Julian is as well-balanced of a performer as he is an entertainer. He managed to not leave a dull moment as he ran around the stage giving a great performance while managing to keep the energy levels high. It also helped that the show was filled with such memorable moments to keep the fun going. Immediately following their performance of “sorry i’m a downer”, Loveless brought a young fan and his sister onstage for a true spectacle for the crowd to bare witness to; an arm wrestling contest. The venue erupted in cheering and applause as the young fan knocked down Julian with a forceful bout of energy to win the contest.
After a set filled with fans joyously dancing and singing their hearts out, it’s simple to see how these two acts managed to sell out Irving Plaza. It was beautiful to see how well the two fanbases crossed over to create such a packed and memorable night that shouldn’t be missed by fans of either artist. All in all, both Loveless and Taylor Acorn felt genuinely grateful to have the opportunity to perform their music to such large crowds. That doesn’t go unnoticed and we can’t wait to see what the future holds for these two acts.
