MYSTEE RELEASES NEW SINGLE 'HARD CANDY'
Boston-born and Cardiff-bred, Mystee is the solo project of singer-songwriter and seasoned front woman Ilana Held. Drawing inspiration from love and loss in the face of a long spree of bad luck, Held weaves an American folk mentality into her hook-laden indie pop music. Held based her first release off her love for skating and her struggle with inner demons and realistic nightmares.
“'Hard Candy’ is a song about longing for someone you know you can't have, someone you shouldn't be thinking about,” says Mystee. “This is a song for… anyone who's ever had an ex move on before them or been in love with someone who doesn't love them back.” The pain she feels in the track is apparent through the way the lyrics are emphasized.
Mystee says she takes inspiration from artists like Big Thief, Soccer Mommy, and Phoebe Bridgers. The influence is very apparent through both the lyricism and the melodies used.
