NICK VIVID AT ALL NIGHT SKATE IN BROOKLYN

NICK VIVID AT ALL NIGHT SKATE IN BROOKLYN

Earlier in November, I went to see New York City based artist Nick Vivid at a little bar in Brooklyn that absolutely fit the aesthetic of the music that was going to happen. The stage at this 90’s themed bar was not very big, but Nick took it over as soon as he stepped on. He also immediately involved the audience by using his long microphone cord and walking through the crowd. It was just such a fun atmosphere from the get go that you couldn’t help but dance.

He opened the show with “Trainers”, the opening track of his new album, which has this 80’s synth pop opening and very catchy lyrics. He described his album as having a “funk swagger” and that definitely came through in the performance. He had various videos behind him such as a lyric video for the first track. The next song he played had a video behind of him as a child playing various instruments. His dancing, videos, and walking through the crowd singing to people who clearly knew the words made the performance a lot of fun.

Some artists like to briefly talk between songs, but Nick never did except say “thank you”, so he wasted no time and kept the music rolling. Everyone in the venue was feeling good and vibing. He had the stage presence of someone playing a much bigger venue. The incredible stage presence along with a long mic cord to literally walk through the crowd made sure that people were paying attention.

At one point he played a song that he dedicated to “togetherness” and in a time when we were all so isolated standing in that room, you could feel the crowd just enjoying being with friends and getting to actually spend time together. After the initial set, he declared that he does not do encores, so he was just going to play what would be the encore songs and then end the set.

If you have the chance to see Nick Vivid in a small space I would definitely recommend it - guaranteed fun time.
