SOUTH OF EDEN AT MERCURY LOUNGE IN NEW YORK CITY
The saying “never judge a book by its cover” is something a music lover should definitely live by. You may enjoy several different genres, and you may not be very fond of other genres. Whether it is the appearance of the band, a show with several different acts that seem to all fit one style, or the sound of the music, taking several minutes to just listen can surely leave you amazed by some of these acts. South of Eden (formerly known as Black Coffee) is a band I have never heard of until just a few weeks ago. One thing is for sure, I am so glad I took the time to listen and that I jumped at the opportunity to shoot them live! These guys, simply put, ROCK!
I was back in NYC once again, and back at the Mercury Lounge. The sound was great, lighting was nothing special with just a basic setup. The opener was ok, but when South of Eden hit the stage, that sound of pure and genuine Rock n’ Roll was live, loud, and in our face! You can see a tight and unique friendship amongst this four piece as they all flowed with ease towards one another. Their huge smiles from one to another could be seen at any and every angle possible. They were engaged with the crowd from the very beginning, telling us their story and what was currently happening in their music career. The band gives the appearance of the legendary Led Zeppelin and a 90’s Aerosmith. The sound is simply put, pure Rock n’ Roll.
While watching them, I was reminded of the several times I have seen Aerosmith and Stone Temple Pilots live, in respect to just their appearance. What I was hearing reminded me of tunes from Led Zeppelin, to that of the current sounds of Greta Van Fleet. You have nothing but passion, drive, and energy coming from these four individuals that make this up and coming masterpiece now known as South of Eden! They bring that old school/classic rock sound from the late 1960s into the 1970s back to the present time. They keep the respect of that era present while turning their sound into that of the modern age.
There is such an abundance of everything nowadays in this world and beyond. Music is something that is always evolving, and we as music lovers are lucky enough to find those acts that simply just rock. Keep your eyes open for South of Eden to see when they will be playing in your area, and keep your ears listening as more of their music is discovered and released! Until next time… KEEP ROCKING!
