THE JAPANESE HOUSE AT THE GREY EAGLE IN ASHEVILLE

It was one of the chilliest nights of the week, and show goers quickly hustled from their cars into The Grey Eagle in Asheville, North Carolina. The Grey Eagle acted as host to The Japanese House and supporting act, Our Girl. The crowd was gathered at the ropes separating them from the music portion of the venue, and quickly claimed their spots along the stage once they were dropped. It’s been a while since I’ve been at such an intimate venue, however I quickly met a few of my ‘neighbors’, two of which were on their honeymoon and had decided to come to the show last minute.

Our Girl took to the stage to start off the night with an exquisite mix of pop/rock and melodic rhythms. The three piece band eased the fans into the show and had special moments throughout when a heavy sound resonated, and got the people warmed up and dancing. In the half hour waiting for The Japanese House, people continued to flood in and by the time it was time for them to go on, the venue was near capacity and clearly ready to welcome the headliner.

The front woman and solo artist performing under the moniker “The Japanese House”, Amber Bain, walked out on stage beaming with her supporting musicians along side. The crowd was ecstatic to finally see the highly anticipated group after waiting for two hours since doors opened. The indie pop act was dreamy and engaging with the crowd. Bain performed songs such as “Lilo”, “You Seemed So Happy” and “Saw You In A Dream”, which began acoustic and ended with the full band. The audience was giving Amber their full attention and everyone in attendance was hooked on the alluring performance. For a room that was very warm and full, The Japanese House made it feel inviting and managed to reach the young people of Asheville on this stop of the tour.
