THE NEIGHBOURHOOD AT OLD NATIONAL CENTRE IN INDIANAPOLIS
The Neighbourhood brought the “Middle of Somewhere Tour” with special guests Slow Hollows and Claud to Indianapolis, and gave fans a night to remember.
To start of the night, the first band on the tour package, Claud, walked on stage to show Inidanapolis just how special they truly are. The band had me feeling refreshed to what I personally define as pop music in the scene the last couple years. I would describe their sound as dream pop/ bedroom rock. They were super catchy and relatable. I truly can't wait to see what the future holds for them!
The Neighbourhood was really on top of it with their special guests because Slow Hollows is the dreadful alt-rock band we’ve been missing. I didn’t think I’d be bumping along to their flow while also on the verge of crying, but I guess that's what great sad music does to you.
As I was standing in the photo pit while hundreds of fans gaze right past me, we were all in suspense as to what we were about to witness. The Old National’s Egyptian room had the stage curtains pulled in. It was dark and there is a single spotlight shining on stage in the shape of a star. The curtains moved slightly as Jesse Rutherford came out from behind them, covered head to toe in silver paint and carrying a silver acoustic guitar, as if he was an alien from the late 1960’s.
Jesse softly broke into The Neighbourhood’s newest single, “Middle of Somewhere” and the crowd joined along with him. I felt as if I was witnessing a reborn David Bowie with what I was hearing and seeing.
After the song the curtains drew away and the full band was revealed, starting to play their next song.
As I continued to watch throughout the night my original impression of them began to fade. This was no longer the “pretty tumblr aesthetic” I used to see them as, but now a fully matured band that deserves all the love and praise they receive. I’m looking forward to what comes next from this band.
