ARLO PARKS AT LA BOULE NOIRE IN PARIS

ARLO PARKS AT LA BOULE NOIRE IN PARIS

The young English poet, Arlo Parks, was in Paris for the first time for her first headlining show ever in the French capital. The production chose a small venue that sold out very quickly. If you don’t know her yet, here is why you should listen to her discography right now:

  • She is one of the latest signatures of the Transgressive label (house of many incredible artists, such as Foals, Blaenavon, Two Door Cinema Club, Boniface and Maricka Hackman)

  • She featured on one of the best songs of 2019 with Easy Life called “Sangria.

  • Her latest single, “Eugene”, is simply beautiful.

Back to the concert, it felt very special in many ways. Her mother grew up in Paris, so Arlo Parks kept a special connection to this city. In perfect French, she explained the meaning of many of her songs, each time taking the time to explain why they are so precious to her. I don’t know if it was the setting of the show (small venue, simple stage, simple lighting) or the honesty and the simplicity of the singer, but this concert was highly emotional. In the middle of the performance, she sang one song, “Angel’s Song”, from her EP, Sophie. The soft and sad song was then followed by a poem, about Paris. Arlo Parks wrote a piece of thoughts and feelings about the French capital during the day and read it, very simply. With very accurate words about Paris, she beautifully described the complex feelings I have for this city. Then, she played “Eugene, her latest single and a favorite of mine. I think I have rarely been this moved by a live performance for quite some time. It was more than everything I expected from her concert. Everything from gentle, soft, emotional, and warm to beautiful. She will, for sure, quickly gain a well-deserved popularity and if ever you have the chance to catch her set, do it without a doubt.
