KEANE AT L'OLYMPIA IN PARIS
7 years after their record Strangeland, the British band, Keane, suddenly decided to make a comeback in the pop-rock scene. They celebrated their return with an intimate concert at La Maroquinerie, one of the smallest venues of the French capital. Obviously, with a very motivated fanbase, this concert left quite a few people unable to witness this first show. They released a new album in September, called Cause and Effect and have now embarked on an extensive EU tour.
L’Olympia was packed when the opener, Eliza Shaddad, entered the stage alone. The young singer and songwriter said some words in a near perfect French before playing songs from her first album. With an amazing voice and a charismatic presence on stage, her performance was very impressive. It was even more impressive by being alone on this famous stage. Her music is a beautiful discovery on our side, and we particularly loved her single, “One Last Embrace”.
When Tom, Tim, Richard and Jesse finally made their way up on the stage, they were loudly acclaimed by L’Olympia. During these seven years of absence, Keane was obviously dearly missed in France. Their performance that night was brilliant. Tom’s vocals are still unbelievably good, their interactions on stage were as fun as they used to be, and they seemed very happy to be playing together. For the biggest pleasure of the fans, classic hits from their very first record, Hopes and Fear were played tonight. To sing along to “Somewhere Only We Know” was a big highlight of the concert. Their new album, Cause and Effect also had a large part of the setlist. The new tunes are a bit more electro-pop, fitting to the new musical trends of the last years, but are as catchy as the old ones. It was a hell of a comeback and a hell of a party tonight at L’Olympia.
