LOS CHIKOS DEL MAIZ AT SALA SANTANA IN BILBAO
Los Chikos del Maiz are presenting their latest album, “Comancheria”, around the whole country, and on February 7th it was the time for Bilbao to see them live. The tickets were sold out as soon as they were available; the expectation for this political rap band is incrediblly high. Around 15 years on stage, “El Nega” and “Toni el Sucio”, the two voices, with DJ “Plan B”, did not disappoint the attending crowd. They are, without a doubt, one of the most polemic bands in the Spanish state, with politically charged lyrics and songs directly written for specific social situations in Spain. Every year we can see on the news that one of their concerts has been canceled by the local authorities, mostly because they do not match with their political thoughts, but their lyrics are much more than that.
We can find continuous references to great movies and books of all time. Both members are well known cinephiles and that is something that can be seen on their social media. They also speak about political situations from a long time ago, like the 80s in Spain, which should not be forgotten. At this concert we had a fun situation, as Nega was speaking about the next song and realized that most of the front line in the crowd was not even born on those days.
On the part that I am concerned, I was able not only to shoot from the pit, but they also let me and other photographers to get on stage. This is absolutely unusual and I want to thank the group and the promotors for it. As you can see on the images, the different angles are something to thank for. The show itself was amazing, but a little bit short. It is obvious that they gave everything they had, but maybe another 15 minutes are needed to get the concert to another level.
