100 GECS AT HEADLINERS MUSIC HALL IN LOUISVILLE

100 GECS AT HEADLINERS MUSIC HALL IN LOUISVILLE

It was a chilly Friday night in Louisville Kentucky and I felt almost in awe of what I was about to witness for the first time. The Hyper-pop duo from Saint Louis, MO comprised of Laura Less and Dylan Brady, is currently on their “10,000 Gecs” tour throughout all of North America. The sold out show at Headliners Music Hall was packed wall-to-wall with die hard gec fans.

This night’s show had only one opener and that being Aaron Cartier. Aaron’s energy was the proper introduction for what chaos awaited the crowd. His fast pace and fun interactive performance had the whole front of house jumping and dancing like they were at a disco.

To get the crowd even more amped up for gecs, Aaron performed a stupid horse remix halfway through his set, then had the crowd squat to the floor to jump in unison to a bassheavy hailstorm, starting a wave of push pits.

Taking to the stage in complete darkness, Laura and Dylan strolled out in a casual manner, dressed in their vibrant wizard robes to greet the crowd. The gecs started their show off by performing a mixture of songs from their “1000 gecs” album and a lot of new material from the highly anticipated “10,000 gecs”.

Between smashing a xylophone to pieces and losing a mallet to the crowd in the process, an acoustic autotune emo ballad, and high energy ska push pits; 100 gecs doesn't disappoint nor do they lose your attention.

The crowd at the show was just as eye-catching with halloween costumes, LED rave gloves, and fans recording the set on their Nintendo 3DS cameras. It really has been a long time since I’ve seen such a band blend so many genres and bring so many different people together at a show - rave kids, old head emos, and, for some, their first live concert. 100 gecs is truly a must see performance and not a group people should ignore.
