BISHOP BRIGGS AT THE FILLMORE IN PHILADELPHIA
British singer/songwriter Bishop Briggs graced the city of Philadelphia with a performance that was certainly one for the books as part of her “Champion Headline Tour”. With support from Miya Folick and Jax Anderson, The Fillmore was never left without entertainment.
Bishop Briggs’ stage set up was very conducive to showcasing her as an artist. A very large angled screen took up the stage while her band performed on risers above and behind it. This really allowed Bishop Briggs to move around the stage. She wore a tracksuit, and honestly, that girl moved around so much that she couldn’t have picked a better outfit choice. Opening up her performance with one of her newest singles “Champion”, she had the crowd up off their feet and screaming from the get go. Her performance was incredibly impressive. While literally sprinting and jumping from one side of the stage to the other, the artist performed hits from her 2018 album ‘Church Of Scars’ such as “Wild Horses”, “White Flag”, and “Hi Lo (Hollow)”. To top it all off, her pitch and tone were dead on, and her voice had such power and passion behind it. Her personality on stage when not performing is so bubbly and infectious that you can’t help but smile listening to her talk. She explained to the crowd early on that Philadelphia was a highly anticipated stop for her on this tour, and you could absolutely tell how truly excited she was to be here.
During her performance a stand out moment was definitely halfway through when she stopped to perform a medley that included Twenty One Pilots’ “Stressed Out”, Panic at the Disco’s “I Write Sins Not Tragedies”, and My Chemical Romance’s “Welcome to the Black Parade”. My first thought was how happy my little emo heart was, and promptly after finishing she made a very similar comment, which really had me laughing. It was nice to see how relatable she could be to many of the people in the audience. The screen behind her was used to show snippets from the music videos, which was a nice touch to the performance.
Bishop Briggs will be releasing her new album ‘Champion’ on November 8th, and to celebrate this she included a couple of new songs in the set list including “JEKYLL & HIDE” and “My Shine” (written with K. Flay). As I looked around the room, regardless of whether she was playing familiar material or new material, fans of all ages were in their own happy places dancing like crazy. I honestly don’t have enough words to explain how moved I was by her performance, especially during the closer, “River”. Bishop Briggs has an indescribable stage presence and if you ever have the chance to make it out to one of her shows I can’t recommend seeing her enough.
